The Learning Experience of Postgraduate Students

Whilst the results from the PGR student survey expressed overall satisfaction with the majority of services at the University of Kent; there was a concern amongst respondents in both the 2006 and 2007 survey regarding the lack of a postgraduate community and the work environment. It has been noted previously that some faculties provide a fuller induction program than others but the induction is an important time for helping students build a community and more attention should be paid to this for PGR students.

A PGR student from the Department of SPSSR commented:

“There should be more to encourage interaction across departments and faculties, especially for international students.”

Kent Union is hopeful that the new Postgraduate College will help create a sense of community on campus for this group. The formation of a student committee in the new college will assist this but further work is deemed necessary.
